Action for a Green Future aims to be yet another warning against the rapid degradation of the planet. So long as the policies and behaviours of society do not change course towards a more sustainable future, warnings like these cannot be overstated. It is important to fight global warming with attitudes that lead to the reduction of greenhouse gases and promote greater sustainability of human activities and habits.

This exhibition begins with a poetic relationship between nature and humanity. Catarina Nogueira shares close and intimate images with the viewer, in hope of walking towards a happier future. However, this yearning is interrupted by the trail of destruction caused by Hurricane Mitch in Honduras. As a consequence of climate change, extreme natural phenomena are becoming increasingly frequent.

Roberto Fernández, on the other hand, creates a scenography based on scientific graphs about the melting of the Arctic and Antarctic ice, which will have disastrous effects, with the rising ocean waters and the disappearance of many coastal populations.

With "The Heavy Loads of Our World," Remco de Vries invites the viewer to reflect on the excessive consumption habits of today's societies, which contribute not only to the depletion of raw materials but also to pollution due to the massive need for transportation.

José Artur Macedo draws our attention to the issue of drought in Alentejo. For mere economic reasons, traditional dryland farming is gradually being replaced by monocultures that consume large quantities of water, exacerbating the situation.

Finally, Micael Espinha generates a fictional scenario about the potential impact of climate change on the Lisbon landscape. The capital city becomes a desolate territory with increasing desertification.

Faced with worsening environmental conditions, we must all, even if on a small scale, contribute to a greener future. Reducing the consumption of electricity, water and fossil fuels, developing recycling habits, are examples of small steps the planet will be grateful for.
