Echo of My Childhood (2014-2020)

The Cossack village of Bagovskaya, located in the foothills of the North Caucasus, Russia, is the place where my mother was born, where my mother's ancestors lived : her mom and dad, their sisters and brothers, parents and grandparents. When I was a child, we often went to Bagovskaya, where some our relatives were still alive. And when they died, we had no reason to go there, and for a very long time I did not visit the village. But in 2014, when my grandma turned 100, we visited Bagovskaya cemetery. Mom met and recognized her neighbors, we went to their house, and I was amazed how much their house looked like Grandma's, although many years had passed. I recognized the color of the walls in houses, even the furniture, which, as is often the case with old people, stood from time immemorial, they used to live like this - some kind of chest of drawers or a chest, or an iron bed with "bumps" - these ordinary interior items reminded me of my childhood or, more precisely, about those trips "from town to village" to my grandmother, away from worries and hectic city life.Every summer I come to the village to shoot. The photographs depict people I do not know. But everything that surrounds them (mountain landscapes, the river) and the things they surround themselves with (household items, utensils, home decorations) are very familiar to me. It is as if I hear an echo of my childhood. It makes me feel light, kind nostalgic melancholy for the irrevocable time, longing for a House in which only children and old people live.
