My work explores our relationship with the environment, aiming to provoke deep contemplation. For over two decades, I have photographed the landscapes of my native Iceland, witnessing the profound impacts of climate change. The displayed pieces come from two interconnected series, “Into the Center” and “Above Water,” each featuring three photographs taken at the same location and arranged to create a seamless flow. These large, vertically oriented images envelop the viewer, fostering a heightened awareness of one’s place within the environment. In my Topography series, I further investigate this concept by layering sheets of photographic paper with varied cutouts. This technique creates an inverted topography pattern, where visible layers overlap hidden ones, symbolizing erosion and suppression over time. This invites viewers not only to immerse themselves in the landscape but also to reflect on human impacts on the environment. Through this work, I aim to raise awareness and inspire action to address the pressing environmental challenges our planet faces.
